Private Pilot License (PPL)

The Private Pilot License (PPL) is a certification that authorizes the holder to operate single-engine aircraft exclusively.

The Private Pilot License differs from the Sport Pilot License in various respects, including limitations on specific altitudes and distances, passenger capacity, and the permissible range of aircraft within this category.

Privileges

  • The ability to operate non-jet engine aircraft in accordance with the specific category.
  • The ability to conduct flights during daylight hours using visual flight rules (VFR), with a visibility range of more than 5 kilometers.
  • The ability to fly at altitudes of up to 15,000 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

Limitations

  • Restricted to flying aircraft that require the presence of a training team from the manufacturing company.
  • Restricted to flying during night-time hours, from sunset to sunrise.
  • Restricted to flying in conditions with a visibility range lower than 5 kilometers.
  • Restricted from flying at altitudes exceeding 15,000 feet above mean sea level (MSL).
  • Restricted from engaging in commercial aviation activities.

Obtaining the license

Upon successful completion of the theoretical test and fulfilling the practical requirements for the license, the instructor will endorse the practical test form issued by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

This endorsement confirms the readiness of the candidate for the practical examination. Subsequently, the test date will be determined by GACA-accredited examiners.

Requirements

  • Be a member of the Saudi Aviation Club (REGISTER).
  • Minimum 17 years old as per GACAR § 61.133.
  • Proficiency in English language (Level 4) as per GACAR § 61.53.
  • Pass the required knowledge test on the aeronautical knowledge areas listed in Appendix A to GACAR Part 141
  • Pass a practical test on the areas of operation listed in Appendix A to GACAR Part 141 that apply to the aircraft rating sought as per GACAR § 61.133.
  • Hold at least a Class 2 medical certificate as per GACAR § 61.133.

Private pilot training minimum requirements as per GACAR 61 are the basis of the above calculations, it's important to note that most students will require additional training to reach the required proficiency level for private pilot. Each individual is different therefore, students should budget for 20-30% additional training.

Flight training expenses REQUESTED to be paid using the approved payment methods established by the Saudi Aviation Club's finance department. It is essential to understand that the flight instructor's primary responsibility is your training. If you need to make payments for flight expenses, please coordinate with the Saudi Aviation Club's financial department or the designated person in charge at the airport. They will provide necessary guidance and support to ensure the proper completion of payment transactions.

Please note that the prices for all phases of the flight training program have been meticulously determined and officially displayed on the Saudi Aviation Club's official website. It is crucial to REPORT any rates or prices that DO NOT align with the information displayed on the Saudi Aviation Club's website.

It is important to be aware that the Saudi Aviation Club DOES NOT accept any responsibility for additional charges or amounts to be transferred to any account other than the Saudi Aviation Club's ANB Bank account. Engaging in such transactions SHOULD BE AVOIDED to ensure the appropriate handling of your payments and to prevent any potential overcharging.

If you encounter any issues or difficulties with your ongoing instructor, please kindly communicate with us, and we will be more than happy to arrange for another instructor to assist you.

Please note that flight schedules may be subject to rescheduling after payment in the following situations:

  • The aircraft is deemed unfit for flight at the scheduled time.
  • Weather conditions do not permit safe flying.
  • Security restrictions are in place.

If the payment transaction has already been completed, the flight will be rescheduled based on availability.
