Club journey

The milestones and achievements that shaped the club — from the founding decree to our newest airports.

Since 2000

Where we started and where we are today

The club was founded from a deep passion and love for aviation

  1. 2000

    Founding

On 4 December 2000 (9/8/1421 AH), Cabinet Resolution No. 217 established the club as an independent non-profit entity, following the sustained efforts of the founder and president, His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz — with the goal of promoting aviation culture and sciences and creating a suitable environment for learning and aerial activities.

  2. 2000

    Thumamah Airport opens

In the same year, Thumamah Airport was inaugurated in Riyadh as the club's operational hub. Certified under aviation safety regulations (GACAR Part 139), it sits within the King Khalid Royal Reserve on 3 million square meters, about 28.9 km north of King Khalid International Airport.

  3. 2013

    Oversight transferred to GACA

On 22 April 2013 (12/6/1434 AH), oversight of the Saudi Aviation Club was transferred from the Ministry of Defense to the General Authority of Civil Aviation by Cabinet Resolution No. 189.

  4. 2024

    Al-Rass Airport opens

The Saudi Aviation Club opened its airport in Al-Rass Governorate, Qassim Region, on 24 April 2024 — in cooperation with the Al-Rass Chamber of Commerce — across a total area of approximately 17.6 million square meters.

  5. 2025

    Madinah Airport opens

The Saudi Aviation Club's Madinah airport opened in 2025, located about 43 km from Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport. It has two runways, with full fuel services and pilot services.

And more achievements are on the way — stay close!
