About the program

The Sport Pilot License (SPL) is your regulated, cost- and time-efficient path into recreational flying, under GACAR Part 61 – Subpart J (GACA). Operating details are spread across the limitation cards below.

Scope & limits

License privileges and limits

  • No night flying

  • No commercial use

  • No low-visibility flights

  • No IFR or flight in IMC

  • 1 passenger maximum

  • Visibility over 5 km

  • VFR and altitude

  • VFR cloud clearance

  • Light sport aircraft
